Nolan Karras James, the illustrator of “The Hero Twins, A Navajo-English Story of the Monster Slayers,” will read from the book noon-5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27 at the Dine College’s Tsaile campus, Tsaile, Ariz.

The story is about two brothers born to Changing Woman and trained by the Holy People to save their people from a race of monsters. Family, friends and mentors must lead a warrior down the good path to victory.

James is an artist, songwriter, powwow dancer, guitarist and former rodeo cowboy. He is from Pinon, Ariz.

The author, Jim Kristofic, grew up on the Navajo Reservation and has worked on the rez, on and off for more than 10 years as a river guide, park ranger, journalist, ranch hand and oral historian. Kristofic’s memoir, “Navajos Wear Nikes: A Reservation Life,” was a finalist for the 2012 Spur Award and was a 2011 Southwest Book of the Year.
