Author Kate Payne   (Photo Credit: Jo Ann Santangelo)Kate Payne makes almost all – like 98 percent – of the food she and her partner eat.  DIY guru Payne talks about life in the kitchen in her new book “The Hip Girl’s Guide to the Kitchen” at 7  p.m. Tuesday, July 1 at Bookworks, 4022 Rio Grande NW. The book contains advice and instructions on making both classic meals and foods that you typically buy, since as yogurt, oil and vinegar infusions, aioli, jam and bread.

A Boston Globe review says the book’s “recipes adhere to a waste-not-want-not philosophy, the kind of dishes your great-grandmother made. One of the author’s favorite is a refrigerator pickle that can include any vegetable you like…”

Payne also wrote “The Hip Girl’s Guide to Homemaking.”
